Benefits of the 2010 Blogathon

Okay I know. I’m really, really late. Marvelous Michelle Rafter, creator of the Blogathon already posted what bloggers learned about blogging for 31 days straight. I know I missed the boat. I’m a horrible, undevoted blogger.

But let me tell you what really happened:

31 days of blogging on not2shabby, 2inspired, guest posting and writing about writing got me blogged out! I went into a blog coma and stowed away to Hawaii where I did nothing for about 2 weeks.

Well if I’m being honest, I did work and write for one of my clients, but I stored up enough blogs for the 2 weeks I was away and was bloggered out. I did not want to type. I did not want to think. I did not want to come up with anymore brilliant blogging ideas. I wanted to lie down in the sand and think about nothing but the feel of the warm sun on my tired, all-typed out hands.

And you know what I did! For 2 weeks, I stopped blogging completely.

Here’s what I learned:

  1. I’m a Blogarama Queen. If I can write 1-3 posts a day, then maybe I can write that magazine article. And maybe I can write a book! Pretty much anything I thought I couldn’t do, maybe I can. More importantly, maybe anything I devote all my focus and energy on I can do because I survived 31 days of blogging!
  2. Blogging is important, but it’s not everything. Professional bloggers may scoff. Writers may agree or agree to disagree. But one thing I learned is that there is a lovely world out there, beyond the confines of my computer screen and I need to live it. Blogging is important to me, but it is not my everything.
  3. Oh yes I can! When I first started blogging, doubts hid everywhere. They hid behind my typewriter, inside my head, digging deep into my soul. Could I do it? Was I good enough? Does anyone really give a damn about what I think? Here’s what 31 days of blogging taught me: Who cares?! I can blog. I have something to say. And I’ll do it even if nobody else reads it. Why? Because I can!

Thank you Michelle Rafter and all of the super duper helpful Blogathoners who came to say hello on this blog, who let me venture out and guest blog on there’s and who wrote such amazing post on mine! For that alone, this experience has been wonderfully valuable! Yes I would do it again! Well, maybe after a year of recovering…

  1. Brandi,

I am impressed that you had banked 2 weeks of blogging! WOW. What a great way to do your blogging and be able to live that life that’s out there away from the computer! I think that so many of us can all whole heartedly agree with that! Congratulations for blogging all 31 days!

  2. Hi Kristie! Thanks so much for visiting my site and for your super sweet comment! Yes it was hard work and I was a bit haggard. I think I gain a few pounds in the process too. =) But it was worth it so I could take a vacation seeing my family and friends in Hawaii. Thanks again for the congrats!
