Writing Resources to Take Advantage of Write Now

Hawaii is in lockdown. Many of us are in shelter mode while we’re juggling normal daily tasks and the added joy of homeschooling our kids. It’s not easy to find the silver lining on days when the kids are not listening, jumping on beds, and oh yeah writing hasn’t happened in weeks. While you’re fantasizing about the freedom to sit in a coffee shop, here are a few good things going on now. And don’t we all need good news?
  1. Writer’s Digest free tutorials for a month. Always wanted to learn how to write the best middle-grade query or develop a social media worthy platform? Go here and use code WDTUTORIAL25 to pick the webinar of your choice.
  2. Hope*Writers $1 for a month. If you’re not familiar with Hope*Writers, they’re an online community of writers that has a private supportive Facebook group and a website with information, interviews and other resources for writers at different stages of their career. There is a subtle religious undertone to everything they do, but this makes their “Tuesday Teachings,” and other programs inspiring to watch and listen to, even if you’re not a religious person. Bonus: The last time I heard they were looking to hire a bunch of people including a social media expert and a writer!
  3. SCBWI or Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators is offering free digital webinars with authors like Kate Messner and Henry Winkler (Yes that Henry Winkler!) included in your annual membership. It’s $95 per year and less if you’re a student. No need for a code here just head straight to the SCBWI.org website.
  4. Writing Blueprints is offering a free trial for their programs whether you want to write picture books, chapter books, middle grade/YA, self-publish, write for magazines, okay basically any manuscript. No code just go here.
  5. Free digital version of Publisher’s Weekly. Go here to learn more.
  6. Highlights Foundation is offering free online sessions. There are writing meditations and writer chats offered weekly. Read about it here.
  7. Author Jordan Rosenfeld is offering six free writing courses. Go to her Facebook author page under videos to watch the prerecorded classes.
That’s all I have. But if you know of any other free resources or if you’re a writer offering something you want to share right now, leave a comment or send me an email. Hope this helps! Happy Writing!
